Cameron DiazWith her father’s recent passing and her new movie “What Happens in Vegas” hitting theaters on Friday (May 9), its been a busy month for Cameron Diaz.

But that didn’t keep the 35-year-old actress from taking part in Pangea Day - a star-laced broadcast from the Culver City movie studio where the “Wizard of Oz” was filmed.

During the first-ever global film festival, which seeks to replace conflict with understanding, “millions of people at venues around the world simultaneously watched a live four-hour broadcast of short independent films, some made by refugees using camera-enabled Nokia mobile telephones, showing life through their eyes.”

According to AP reports, Diaz said that her favorite was “an animated work featuring a bear of a man folding a gritty, congested city piece-by-piece origami-style into a forest oasis.”

“This is beautiful,” Diaz said of the event as a whole. “Films can’t change the world but the people who watch them can.”

Cameron DiazWith what promises to be one of the most appealing romantic comedies of the season coming out on Friday, Cameron Diaz was at NBC’s Today show this morning doing a little promotion.

Joined by her “What Happens In Vegas” co-star Ashton Kutcher, the “There’s Something About Mary” cutie joked with host Meredith Vieira and kept things lighthearted throughout most of the interview.

But when the conversation turned to talking about her deceased father, Cameron became noticeably more somber.

She told Vieira, “I think we’re just so fortunate as a family - to have the family that we have.” Diaz also gave Ashton props for having “good girls,” referring to Kutcher’s wife, Demi Moore’s daughters.

Cameron DiazA grieving Cameron Diaz gets by with a little help from her men.

“The Sweetest Thing” actress, devastated by the sudden death of her father, was comforted by a pair of former flames at his memorial service on Sunday.

Justin Timberlake, who split with Diaz in January, showed his support at the informal Seal Beach, Calif. service, which started around 1:30 p.m. Singer-songwriter John Mayer, another former beau, arrived separately to pay his respects. They both lingered past 4 p.m., after most of the other guests had left.

Emilio Diaz, 58, an oil company foreman, had been diagnosed with the flu several weeks ago. He died suddenly from pneumonia last Tuesday, and is survived by his wife Billie and Diaz’ older sister Chimene.

The stricken actress asked friends and family to wear colorful clothing in celebration of her father’s life.

“Hardly anyone wore black,” one guest told the Daily Mail. “Lots of people were wearing Hawaiian shirts. It looked more like a party.”

In lieu of flowers, guests were asked to send donations to two ocean protection charities.

“My dad was loved by so many people,” Diaz said. “His humor and spirit will always live on in our hearts.”

Cameron DiazCameron Diaz’s ex-boyfriends Justin Timberlake and John Mayer joined the actress to remember her late father at a memorial service yesterday (20.04.08).

The ‘What Happens in Vegas’ star and a host of friends and family attended the service at Mahe, in Seal Beach, California, to celebrate the life of 58-year-old Emilio Diaz - who died last Tuesday morning (15.04.08) from pneumonia.

Guests chose to shun the traditional funeral attire of black and wear brightly coloured garments instead in honour of Emilio’s fun-loving nature.

An onlooker said: “Most people started arriving at 1.30pm and very few were wearing black. Lots of people had Hawaiian shirts on.”

Justin - who dated Cameron from 2003 to 2006 - and John, who has been romantically linked to the 35-year-old actress for the past two years, arrived separately and stayed until people started leaving at 4pm.

Instead of flowers, the Diaz family asked mourners to donate money to conservation foundations Surfrider.org or Reefcheck.org in Emilio’s name.
